These problem solving activities were developed
by four of my students:
Nick, Matthias, Anthony, and Caleb.

At the KOA we had a pumpkin carving contest.
There were 20 kids.
3 kids carved 2 pumpkins each.
2 kids carved 4 pumpkins each. 6 kids carved 6 pumpkins each.
How many pumpkins were carved in all?

What happened to the other 9 kids?

At Horror Island there are 36 gravestones.
1/6 are R.I.P. stones.
1/4 are Get Out stones.
1/3 are Claw stones.
How many stones of each type are there?

The remaining 1/4 of the stones are fancy. What do they look like?

You may want to use this pie graph to help.
