This problem solving activity integrates nicely with my interactive Fractions program.

I suggest that students draw circles or sticks inside the image provided on the bottom of this page.

Johnny, Sally, and Jim were dying 4 dozen Easter eggs.

They dyed 1/4 blue, 1/4 yellow, 1/6 red, 1/6 purple, and 1/6 green.

How many did they dye of each color?

Were more eggs dyed yellow or purple? How many more?

You may download a .pdf version of this puzzle, which can be printed.
To view and print the .pdf sheet, you will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader, which you can download free from their web site.
(You may already have Acrobat Reader, in which case you don't need to download it.)
