Students continue to ask me how old I am.
It was a year ago that I started
Maple Tree Puzzles of the Week,
with a puzzle about my age.

My birthday is February 26.

This year my age is a product of
TWO PRIME NUMBERS

How old am I?

The solution

In 2001, my age was a prime number.
Here are some prime numbers:
2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59
Here is a web site that lists many prime numbers.
In 2002, my age was a multiple of 9.
Here are some multiples of 9:
9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63
So in 2001, I could have been 17, and in 2002 I could have been 18.
BUT in 2003, that would make me 19, and that is not the product of two prime numbers.
So try 53 in 2001, 54 in 2002, and 55 in 2003.
55 is the product of 5 x 11, so this meets all three conditions.
I am 55 years old.
